Controlled Waste & Special Items

Some items cannot go in a standard bin or skip — they require licensed handling, specific disposal pathways, and surcharges to cover proper facility fees. We handle many of these items and will always be upfront about costs before we start.

What Counts as Controlled Waste

Controlled waste items attract higher disposal fees because they require specialist handling, specific licensed facilities, or separate collection streams. We pass on these costs transparently — there are no hidden surcharges.

  • Paint tins and paint drums (full or empty)
  • Household and commercial chemicals
  • Mattresses (disposal levy applies)
  • Tyres (disposal fee per tyre)
  • Fridges and freezers (gas degassing required)
  • E-waste — TVs, computers, monitors, printers
  • Batteries (lead acid, lithium, alkaline)
  • Fluorescent tubes and globes
  • Oil, fuel, and lubricants

Items We Cannot Take

Some items require specialist contractors and we will always tell you upfront if that is the case:

  • Asbestos — requires a licensed asbestos removalist
  • Explosives, firearms, and ammunition
  • Medical and radioactive waste
  • Gas bottles (unless confirmed empty)
  • Stolen goods

Typical Surcharges

Mattress$35–$55 each
Fridge / Freezer$55–$85 each
Tyre$20–$35 each
