Scrap Metal Pickup & Recycling

Scrap metal is where it all started for us. John Cook began collecting scrap metal across Coffs Harbour in 2003 before The Junk Removers grew into what it is today. Metal collection is still a core part of what we do — old steel, aluminium, iron, copper, and mixed metal from homes, farms, rural properties, workshops, and businesses across the Coffs Coast, collected and taken to our local recycling partners at Sims Metal and Sell Parker.

Where We Collect Scrap Metal

Scrap metal has a real value at the recycling yard — steel, copper, aluminium, and iron are all recovered and reused. The issue for most people is not knowing where to take it, not having a vehicle large enough to carry it, or simply not having the time. We handle the pickup and the trip to the recycler.

We collect from residential properties, farm and rural lots, sheds and workshops, construction sites, and commercial premises. If you have a pile of old metal sitting on your property that you would like gone, send a photo and we will get it sorted.

  • Old steel and iron from rural and farm properties
  • Aluminium and copper from demolitions and renovations
  • Scrap from workshops and mechanic yards
  • Old fencing, gates, and structural steel
  • Discarded tools, machinery parts, and equipment
  • End-of-life whitegoods and appliances with metal content
  • Mixed loads from large clean-outs where metal is included

Our Recycling Partners

We take scrap metal to established local recycling facilities we have worked with for years — including Sims Metal and Sell Parker in the Coffs Harbour area. These are registered recycling operations, not general landfill.

What We Collect

Most types of non-hazardous scrap metal are accepted. If you have something unusual, send a photo and we will confirm.

Old Fencing & Gates

Steel, aluminium, and iron fencing panels, posts, and gates from rural and residential properties.

Farm & Rural Scrap

Tanks, troughs, old machinery, tools, trailers, and farm infrastructure that has reached end of life.

Whitegoods & Appliances

Old washing machines, dryers, fridges, and dishwashers. Metal-bodied appliances recovered for recycling.

Structural & Building Steel

Off-cuts, beams, lintels, roof iron, and steel from demolitions and renovations.

Copper & Aluminium

Copper pipe and fittings, aluminium window frames, doors, and sheeting from fit-outs and demolitions.

Miscellaneous Metal

Old tools, gym equipment, shelving, steel furniture, filing cabinets, and assorted metal items.

What we do not collect

We do not collect live electrical wiring or connected gas fittings. We do not collect asbestos-containing materials or items that have stored hazardous chemicals without appropriate clearance. Empty gas cylinders may be accepted — call to confirm. No firearms or controlled items.

Pricing

Scrap metal collection is priced based on volume, weight, and the distance and labour involved. Some high-value metal collections may result in no charge — it depends on the quantity and type. Send photos and we will give you an honest assessment.

Minimum pickup (small amount)From $110
Up to 1/4 Truck (~4–5m³)$498.99
Up to 1/2 Truck (~8–10m³)$998.99
Up to 3/4 Truck (~13–15m³)$1,498.99
Full Truck (~18m³)$1,998.99

All prices include GST, labour, truck, and delivery to licensed recycling facilities. Pricing is based on how much of the truck the metal fills. Scrap metal is heavy — a smaller volume can still be a significant load. High-value loads (large volumes of copper or aluminium) may offset or eliminate the collection fee depending on current recycling rates. Access and distance also factor in. Send photos for the most accurate assessment.

Factors That Affect Price

  • Type of metal — copper and aluminium are higher value
  • Weight and volume of the load
  • How accessible the scrap is — yard, shed, paddock
  • Whether it needs to be separated or sorted
  • Distance and travel from Coffs Harbour
  • Current recycling market rates

Part of a Larger Cleanout?

If you have scrap metal as part of a broader property cleanout — shed, garage, farm, or estate — we can handle the whole job in one pickup. Scrap goes to recycling, the rest goes to the appropriate licensed facility.

Common Questions

Can I get paid for my scrap metal?

In some cases — for large volumes of high-value metals like copper or aluminium, the recycling value may offset or eliminate our collection fee. Send us photos and we will give you an honest assessment based on current rates.

Can you collect scrap from rural or farm properties?

Yes. We service rural and farm properties around the Coffs Coast. Distance from Coffs Harbour factors into pricing for more remote locations. Give us a call to discuss.

What if the scrap is mixed with other rubbish?

Mixed loads are fine — we separate metal from general rubbish on site where practical. If it is a combined cleanout, we price the whole load as a general rubbish removal with metals going to the recycler.

Do you collect old cars or machinery?

Old farm machinery and large metal structures are considered on a case-by-case basis. Call to describe the item and we will advise whether it is within our scope. We do not collect registered vehicles.
