Water Tank Removal and Disposal on the Coffs Coast and Mid North Coast

Old water tanks cause problems for homeowners and rural property owners. They take up space, they are awkward to move, and they often cannot go out with the regular bin. A cracked poly tank, a fibreglass tank that has reached the end of its life, or a corroded steel tank being replaced can all sit on a property for years because nobody is sure how to remove them safely.
We are The Junk Removers & Pick Up Pros, a family-owned business run by John and Leanne Cook. We have been serving the Mid North Coast since 2003 and are based in Coffs Harbour. We cover the corridor from Port Macquarie to Yamba.
Why old tanks should be removed
A tank that is cracked, collapsed or left to stand water can become a safety and hygiene problem. Sagging steel can fall, and stagnant water can attract pests. A tank that is no longer in use also takes up room that could be used for a new installation or for the garden. Removing it properly keeps the property safe and tidy.
Types of tanks we can remove
- Polyethylene (poly) tanks, including cracked or split tanks
- Fibreglass tanks from residential and rural properties
- Corrugated steel tanks, whether collapsed or still standing
- Slimline tanks and above-ground tanks
- Bladder tanks and flexible storage units
Large or unusual tanks, including concrete or masonry tanks, need a quote from photos and dimensions before we confirm the job. Tell us what you have when you get in touch.
Preparing the tank
The tank should be empty before the crew arrives. A full or partly full tank is much heavier and harder to load safely. If gravity drainage will not empty it, a pump may be needed. Disconnecting the inlet and outlet pipes is often a job for a plumber or a handy helper. Clear the gates, fences and paths so the crew can reach the tank.
How the process works
- Text clear photos of the tank, together with its approximate size in litres or dimensions, to 0415 540 055.
- Include access details such as gates, fences, slopes and where the truck can park.
- We reply with a confirmed quote. Travel time is built into the price.
- Once you accept, we confirm a time. Tell us if the tank is still partly full so we can plan the job.
- On the day, the crew assesses the tank. Depending on its size, we may cut it down for safe loading. Our 600 kg tail-lift handles many standard residential tanks.
Cutting and loading
Steel tanks are often cut into sections on site, which makes them easier to load and handle. Cutting is planned from the photos, and we tell you before we start if the method changes. Poly and fibreglass tanks are usually lifted whole where the access allows.
Recycling and disposal
Metal from steel tanks is sent to recycling where practical. Other materials are taken to licensed facilities. We do not take asbestos or any waste involving bodily fluids. If a tank contains anything that needs special handling, tell us before the job and we will advise.
Pricing and payment
Our published starting points are a minimum pickup from $110, with quarter, half, three-quarter and full loads at $498.99, $998.99, $1,498.99 and $1,998.99. Tank size, material, access and the time needed all affect the final figure, so every tank removal is quoted from photos before booking. Residential customers can pay by card or Afterpay via Square. Approved accounts can be invoiced.
Insurance
We carry $20M public liability cover, goods-in-transit insurance and workers' compensation insurance on every job.
